Navigating the NREMT website

The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians is a certification organization that provides EMTs and Paramedics the opportunity to prove they meet national standards. Having this certification facilitates getting licensed with any State organization. However, this does not grant automatic permission to work. It is not a licensing agency. It simply lets any State EMS office know that the individual meets the national standard for the scope of practice they are testing for and can be eligible for reciprocity. Having a NREMT card is extremely beneficial for those thinking of working in other states as it typically streamlines your licensure process. If you are close to graduating from EMT or Paramedic school and are not sure if you want to test for the NREMT, let me help with that decision. Do it.

For those already licensed, keeping record of all CE hours is difficult sometimes. Instead, many opt to test out by exam every two years with the NREMT and that grants them reciprocity with the state they are working for. It has proven to be very convenient in all the years I have been practicing and I highly recommend it to anyone who is becoming an EMT or Paramedic.

The website can be a little daunting at first but we are here to help demystify it.

  • Create a login and password.
  • Once created, you will be directed to your dashboard. If you already have an account, you will see your name, your certification type (EMT or Paramedic), status, and expiration of your certification on the left hand side.
  • There is a drop down menu that is labeled “My Current Role.” Candidate is the default selection. This is where you can update your personal information under the Profile This is also where you can start your initial application for a NREMT certificate under the Application tab.
  • If you click the drop down menu and select My Certification, it will direct you to the page where you can find all the information about your actual certification. This is where you recertify by inserting your CE hours or recertifying by exam.
  • At the very bottom of that page, you will see an overview of your state license and the agency you affiliate with.
  • There is also an overview of your CE hours, if you have them inputted.

If you are still having trouble with your initial application or recertification, please reach out to us!

Until next time,

Amani
